Abstract

Therapeutic termination of pregnancy as practised in the UK is reviewed. The current legal situation in the UK is discussed. Guidelines are given regarding ‘best practice’ for the provision of termination services. Details of current techniques for termination are outlined, including medical management for both the first and second trimesters. Methods to minimize the short- and long-term complications of termination are described using information from evidence-based practice.
