This review discusses the therapeutic drugs that act on the pregnant uterus. These may be thought of as modifiers of endogenous uterine physiological pathways and include those agents acting upon the oxytocin receptor, prostaglandin pathways, progesterone receptors, ß-adrenergic receptor, calcium channels and via nitric oxide. Agents that are currently used for the induction of labour, termination of pregnancy, augmentation of labour and tocolytics are discussed.
