Role of ultrasound in obstetrics

Padma Vankayalapati, Brian HollisCorresponding Author Informationemail address

Abstract

Ultrasound in pregnancy provides carers with ever-increasing information. Advances in technology have made it possible to image the fetus in great detail. It can be applied in clinical practice to aid the physician in the prediction, diagnosis and treatment of fetal pathology. For the effective use of ultrasound, a sound understanding of its usefulness and its limitations is required. Our understanding and knowledge must keep pace with technology to ensure that we use and interpret ultrasound correctly.
