Summary 

Preparing and interpreting written material are important skills, frequently used in medical practice. The inability to perform these tasks correctly makes it impossible, or at least difficult, to appreciate evidence for change and to adequately communicate with patients. Schemes are described to aid students and doctors in interpreting and preparing written material.
